An important aspect of SMPs is continuous engagement with the communities in the project areas. This includes open conversations with the coastal communities as well as the multiple engagement sessions that are ongoing throughout the project timeline.
Phase one was geared toward gathering information and input on community values with relation to the shore, including areas that are of particular interest to both the community and individuals. These sessions were set up as ‘open house’ events with coastal practitioner experts on site to offer one-on-one conversations with participants. This phase of engagement is now complete. Complete
Phase two will expand this work to the rest of the province, focusing on the remaining coastal areas. Early technical work is already underway, future planning and public engagement will be guided by what we have learned during the pilot phase.
